My name is Lauren Weaver. When I was in 2nd grade, I saw a homeless man sitting on a bench in the park downtown. Though only seven (7), this image of homelessness moved me to make a difference. With just an idea and all of my savings ($25), I approached my parents and asked for help in purchasing the man a Christmas present. With their matching gift and advice from The Source, we purchased daily hygiene items, socks and non perishable snacks and placed them in a shoe box. I wrapped the box in beautiful gold Christmas wrap and delivered it to the homeless man in the park. Based upon his reaction and true joy, this single gift became the project now known as Lauren’s Way.
With help from family, friends and the community, Lauren’s Way has become a community wide effort to make a difference for homeless and needy individuals in Indian River County. Each year I host a canned food drive which helps stock The Source’ Pantry and collect items to make the 150+ Christmas boxes that we donate for distribution by The Source.
This year will be the 5th year of my project. If you would like to be involved in Lauren’s Way you can help in any of the following ways:
1) Make a donation to THE SOURCE and reference “LAUREN’S WAY” in the memo line. The funds will be used to purchase items for our Christmas boxes. Donations are tax deductible.
