New Executive Director Appointed

May 2010

We are delighted to announce that the Board of Directors has appointed Sonya Morrison as the new Executive Director of The Source.

Sonya Morrison grew up as the daughter of an army sergeant, moving frequently, touching base in places like Colorado, Tennessee, Arizona and Germany. The constant relocation and rigorous expectations of military life were demanding, but Sonya thrived with new places to grow and opportunities to reinvent herself. From an early age she learned the value of discipline, determination and adaptability.

After school Sonya pursued a career in association management, working out of Metropolitan Washington DC. Her responsibilities had her coordinating projects all over North America. She discovered new passions for writing, research and working with volunteer leadership.

In the spring of 2000, Sonya was drawn into her greatest adventure – a developing relationship with God.

Compelled by a calling to help the desperately needy, Sonya travelled from Northern Virginia to Indian River County in 2002 and sought out The Source. She became impassioned with the mercy of the gospel to unite uncommon people and transform lives. She also discovered the meaning of community, and for the first time she put down roots.

Sonya served at The Source directly under Tom King for eight years. She realized a gift for teaching and a hunger to lead others in living out the gospel in ways that are both practical and transformational. She was appointed to the role of Executive Director in May 2010.

Sonya believes that community, in the truest sense of the word, extends all the way from the greatest to the “least of these.” She sees The Source as demonstrating that sense of community in ministry that unites uncommon people and transforms lives. She believes life’s greatest achievements are not on paper but within people. Her first love is Jesus Christ; second is home and family, which includes her husband, Rob, their 17 year-old son, Cameron, and her mother, Linda.
