Our Mission
To support and serve the community, and lead individuals to a saving faith in Jesus Christ.
Founded in 1995 as a homeless ministry providing meals and Bible Study in a modest 600 sq. ft. Vero Beach storefront, The Source has evolved significantly over the past twenty-eight years. Today, our expansive 5,000 sq. ft. facility at 1015 Commerce Avenue stands as a vital community resource center, open every day of the week.
Our comprehensive Dignity programs cater to the intricate needs of the homeless and underprivileged individuals who seek support at The Source.
Our mission revolves around providing a range of essential assistance, including restaurant-style hot meals, clothing provisions, counseling services, support groups, hygiene amenities, access to showers, mail and telephone facilities, and referrals for benefits. The Source also actively promotes family reunification, aiding numerous individuals in reconnecting with their loved ones.
Pioneering the country’s first Dignity Buses, we offer emergency shelter year-round, with one bus accommodating 20 individuals and the other 16, both operational 365 nights annually. Additionally, our Dining with Dignity initiative empowers participants with hands-on culinary training and food safety education, equipping them for employment in the hospitality sector. Upon completion of the State of Florida’s ServSafe exam, graduates receive official certification, enhancing their career prospects.
Furthering our commitment to holistic care, our Dignity Smiles program provides free dental care through the generosity of local dentists. Qualifying graduates from our Dining with Dignity program can benefit from this initiative. Moreover, our Dignity Jobs program facilitates avenues for dignified income, empowering our members to earn a living.
The Dignity Wellness Program is designed to supply outreach to the community to increase awareness and reduce the stigma of mental health issues. The Dignity Wellness program was recently awarded the 2023 Impact 100 grant of $100,000 and an additional $12,000 from the Grand Harbor Community Outreach Foundation to help provide mental health counseling to our members, including mental health first aid training for staff and community workshops.
The Community Works program is fighting homelessness through the dignity of work and the power of community. Community Works is the volunteer work experience program which invites people experiencing homelessness to volunteer on teams dedicated to cleaning streets, parks and other public spaces while they chart a path out of homelessness.
