The vision of our ministry was conceived as a small group of people attending a weekly home Bible study discussed the growing homeless population in the community. Our founders were deeply moved by their deplorable living conditions and heeded the call of Christ to minister to their most critical needs. The idea was to attract their attention with a free, hot meal, and then to present the Gospel, offering hope for a better future through a relationship with Jesus Christ. We were incorporated in 1995, and since then we have grown into a full-fledged assistance center for the homeless and near-homeless, serving all of Indian River County, Florida.
We provide daily assistance and programs to individuals and families in crisis situations. Many who come to us do not have adequate shelter and are forced to abide on the streets, in wooded areas, abandoned cars, and alley ways. Often they lack the resources even to feed themselves.
We are convinced that homelessness and its causative disorders stem from a deeper spiritual turmoil. The primary mission of The Source is to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ through compassionate service and loving relationships. This brings hope, instilling principles and attitudes that motivate people to change their situation.
Though other agencies in our area work diligently on behalf of the homeless, those they assist must meet the criteria in order to enter their programs. Everyday, The Source reaches men, women, and children who have nowhere else to go. We serve the community as a complementary and integral component in the overall effort to assist the homeless and needy.
