Bringing a message of hope for desperate people
What do colorful eggs and chocolate bunnies have to do with Easter? Well, they do put smiles on millions of faces. :)
The Source brought smiles to desperate people in desperate circumstances all week long in celebration of the Easter holy week. The message was one of hope, that resurrection from what seems to be sure death is possible, and that “sorrow may last for the night, but joy comes with the morning.”
We attended a special Eucharist service at St. Mark’s Anglican Church. This ritual is modeled from the last dinner Jesus shared with his disciples. Did you know the disciples were not chosen because they were well-behaved, highly spiritual people? In fact, they quite often argued with each other and were regularly rebuked by Jesus! We learned that the love of God is available to everyone, and that you can be useful to Him, no matter what condition you may be in.
We were invited to the annual Easter production at First Church of the Nazarene. “His Story” led us on a journey through the final days in the life of Jesus. The theatre-quality sets and costumes gave a sense of realism to the whole experience. We couldn’t help but identify with this man who was also misunderstood, hated and betrayed. We came to realize that because of this, He has great compassion for we who are the walking wounded.
Finally, we participated in Easter sunrise service on the beach, coordinated by Christ the King Presbyterian, Forest Park Baptist and Immanuel Churches. Although the sky was overcast, the rising of the Son was commemorated. What great hope we have, because our Savior conquered and rose victorious! We shared in communion together, in memory of the gift of Christ and in anticipation of His return.
